Daybreakers – A Movie Review

So yeah, I’ma try to review every new movie I see – starting now. Let’s see how long this lasts…
I should be able to write this without any spoilers but I’ll warn you if anything.
The Idea:
- Most of the population are vampires.
- They farm the remaining humans for their blood.
- They’re running out of humans.
- They’re working on a blood substitute.
- Some vampires are mutating.
- This has all been covered by the trailer.
What I liked:
- The idea is bad ass. Nice twist from all the other bullshit vampire stories floating around.
- Building a world suitable for vampires is a great task and I really liked how it was done. A lot of attention to detail was given and it made the movie that much better. The animals, the drinks, the homes, the cars etc all created to fit inside this new vampire world.
- The whole feel to the movie felt right and on point. The lighting was great. At one point there was just black, white and red on the screen which kinda reminded me of the few good things Sin City had going.
- The characters were cool. Not a lot of development was done but it suited the movie just right in my opinion.
What I didn’t like:
- I’m all for blood and gore but I honestly felt it was bit over excessive at certain times. It didn’t really bother me but I just think less is more at times.
- I’m all for the story and the epic-ness of it but a few scenes were just over dramatic for me. Nothing to big but enough for me to comment on it.
- Like Nev said on Twitter, the “bats” did get to me after a while. They also made me jump a few times to be honest… That’s actually something I did like but we’ll leave this here.
- What I really really didn’t like was the fact that they didn’t explain everything. I’d like to know how it fucking happened, that to much to ask? Guess it was.
Bottom Line:
- The things I didn’t like were NOT big enough to make me not like the movie.
- The movie was good and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- I would see it again on TV or DVD in the future.
- I would definitely recommend this movie.
Hmmm… that went well. I like this format.
If you saw the movie, lemme know what you thought of it. If you didn’t see it, I highly recommend it to you.
