Golden Globes or shall I say Golden (fart noise)

Well I got tricked into watching the Golden Globes by a lady friend….. YEAH OK I LIED, I watched this all by my choosing. In reality however, I find this always a good way to see how much bull goes into the accreditation of Hollywood’s finest. Let me say that this year, you could smell the stink through the T.V.

It wasn’t a total loss this year, with The Hangover winning for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, and Robert Downey, Jr. taking it for Best Actor Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical. My biggest complaint about the night was Avatar, and James Cameron. We will touch on that in a bit.

Lets discuss a few of the winners I felt were “unworthy”.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy:

Nominees: Sandra Bullock (The Proposal) , Marion Cotillard (Nine), Julia Roberts (Duplicity), Meryl Streep (It’s Complicated), Meryl Streep (Julia and Julia)

Winner: Meryl Streep (Julia and Julia)

Ok, first of all, GTFO with this double nominee shit. No where else in all the land can you be up for the same award twice, except for Hollywood. Her performance, while pleasant, was miles away from anything remotely deserving in this category. I saw each one of the movies, and obviously what qualifies someone as funny and Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy are two different things.

I almost kicked my own dog when they announced this, I mean good lord, just tell me you gave her the award because she is about to be retired to a Wax Museum.

Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical:

Nominees: Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Steve Carell (The Office), Thomas Jane (Hung), David Duchovny (Californication), Matthew Morrison (Glee)

Winner: Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)

Now as I understand this was a tough category to judge, I think everyone on planet earth would have never though Alec Baldwin should have won it. I honestly took it as a joke when he was on the nominee list for this. Between his version of “acting” and his version of “humor” I don’t know which one is more of a joke. The man is himself in EVERY roll he plays. Give the award to some guy off the street if you aren’t going to give it to one of the other 4.

This one almost got me to toss my channel changer through my T.V.

Best Television Series, Drama:

Nominees: Big Love, Dexter, House, Mad Men, True Blood

Winner: Mad Men

True Blood should have won. Everyone should have stopped watching after this announcement. Enough Said.

Best Director – Motion Picture

Nominees: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), James Cameron (Avatar), Clint Eastwood (Invictus), Jason Reitman (Up in the Air), Quentin Tarantino (Inglorious Bastards)

Winner: James Cameron (Avatar)

The buttons on my keyboard are making the “stress crack” noise from pushing down on them so hard. THAT is how pissed I am, not because James Cameron won (because we all knew that was coming), but because …. well James Cameron won! If this doesn’t show you that “money talks” in Hollywood, then NOTHING does. Even James Cameron got up and said, Kathryn Bigelow should have won. Even though my choice was between her and Reitman, it still goes to prove that modern society would rather have the cash cow win, to make it even more money to line everyones pockets, than they would the true winners.

I went outside and smoked after this one.

00000000000000000000000

I don’t even need to announce the nominees for the best film, because it always mimics the nominees for Best Director. EXCEPT, Invitus was replaced by Precious (which shouldn’t have been nominated either). I am sure you can guess who won. Avatar, yeah, garbage. Was it a good film? Sure. Was it deserving of the Best Motion Picture? Uhhh no.

I have a whole bunch of different ideas or issues that I had with these Golden Globe Awards this year, but as I said a lot of people did win some tough decisions. So let me know what you think! Was I wrong? Do you agree? Let me know!

I understand that people have different opinions and I respect that, so if anyone would care to share them I would love to listen.

Up In The Air wasn't a chick flick. If anything it was Garden State for the middle aged demographic. I didn't hate it, but I won't be able to relate to it for at least another 20 years. I understand why Mad Men won, because all the critics have major hard-ons for it. I watch it occasionally and while it's a good show, when placed in competition with House, it shouldn't have stood a chance. Never got into True Blood. Bored the fuck out of me. It's not a bad show, just not my thing. Really happy that Hangover and Robert Downey Jr won. I didn't watch it, but from what I understand Downey's acceptance speech was the highlight of the night.

On to James Cameron. I did watch parts of his acceptance speech and for a guy who wants to bring to light the troubles of the environment he sure didn't seem to give a shit at that moment. Have you ever heard a smugger, more ego stroking speech than that? I half expected him to drop his pants and climax all over the audience at the end of it. That being said, Bigelow should have won. The Hurt Locker was the best movie of 2009. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jeremy Renner is the most underrated actor of this generation. The only reason I saw 28 Weeks Later was because of him.

One more thing, completely psyched that Christoph Waltz won for best supporting actor. Who would have thought that some unknown actor (unknown in the States anyway) playing a vicious Nazi could steal a movie from Brad Pitt?

Agreed, I respect the comments about not getting into True Blood and do enjoy House, but I think we can come to an agreement that Mad Men winning was a joke.

A valid point you bring up about Cameron too, didn't hear much love go out to his save a tree, baby, the water, the ozone foundation. Why? because the tree is what they use to print his money on, babies souls can be sold for more bullshit votes to win awards that aren't deserving, the water is what he uses to dilute the bullshit that comes out of his mouth and the ozone is fucked because of the Ferrari he drove to the Golden Globes. James Cameron always was and always is a publicity stunt sell out.

P.S. Christoph Waltz who? I thought that was the character Brad Pitt played xD

I'm fairly certain most of James Cameron's success can be attributed to the fact that he sucks Satan's cock on the regular.

I could see giving the award to Bigelow for HurtLocker over Cameron in Avatar, it was and awesome movie. But Up In The Air? I haven't seen it because it screams chick flick. That and I would rather gouge out my eyes and have someone stick ice picks in my ears then watch Clooney try to act. Avatar in 3d was an awesome movie though. The special effect are going to be seen for years.
